Two Cases of Legg-Perthes Disease in a Family


Abstract
Two cases of Legg-Perthes Disease in a family are reported. One, 11 years old female¢¥ was first seen on March 31, 1961 with complaints of limping in her left hip for about six months prior to our first examination. X-ray, taken at the time of first examination, revealed flattening and fragmentation of the head of the left femur, broadening of the femoral neck, widening of the acetabular cavity and sclerosis of the acetabular roof. The patient was treated by means) of bed rest for about initial six months and Taylor type walking caliper as a supplementary treatment but the period of it was not followed because of the lack of communication with the patient.
The other, 26 years old male, was the brother of Case 1. This ¢¥patient was treated when he was 9 years old with the diagnosis of tuberculosis, left hip, by means of single hip spica for 12 months.
When he was first seen with his sister on June 26, 1961, in my office. He had complained of -limping and limitation of motion in his left hip. X-ray, taken on 26th, June, !961, revealed a rounded flattening of the femoral head and shortening of the neck in his left hip. This was the findings of healed Coxa Plana. No treatment. was attempted for him.
